What Makes A Good Writing Desk?

Why A Good Writing Desk is Important

Throughout the years, my writing desk has held my coffee mug during long hours of hard work, my water bottle during the grueling summer heat, and my wine glass in the late-night hours.

I have cried at my desk, prayed at my desk, and celebrated at my desk. It has been my confidant, my co-worker, and trusted friend.

As a self-employed writer, I not only need a functional writing desk, but also one that is dependable. I need a workstation that is both comfortable and attractive.

And, speaking from experience, I know firsthand that working in the wrong surroundings can affect your overall mood, which can also hurt your work.

So, what makes a good writing desk? Two words: SOLID WOOD.

A solid wood writing desk is better due to its superior durability and longevity, which means it can last for decades or even generations, making it a priceless family heirloom to pass down.

A solid wood writing desk is more resistant to scratches, dents, and moisture, and unlike composite wood desks, it does not emit harmful formaldehyde, making it an eco-friendly option.

Solid wood will also outlast inexpensive, ready-to-assemble furniture. Although it may seem convenient and cheaper to buy flat-pack appliances, they are made from cheap materials that will not hold up over time. Trust me - chipped laminate, stuck drawers, and sagging wood - are not something that you want in your home office.

Just imagine, no more peeling laminate or wondering where that plastic screw came from that you found on the floor. But, picture yourself, sipping your morning drink from the comfort of a sturdy, comfortable, and dependable writing desk of your dreams!

Ahh! Can you see it? I can. Good.
