Promising Writing Opportunities for Writers

I know how hard it is to find a good resource of paying writing jobs, especially when you are just starting out. As I come across trusted writing lists and job opportunities, I will share them here with my fellow writers.

Here are just six writing opportunities for writers to get paid and published!

  1. Share your stories about life on the road. Writers and photographers will be paid a flat rate of $200 per article from ROVA magazine. To learn more, please visit their submissions page HERE.

  2. Outpost is a Canadian publication that focuses on long-form travel journalism. Their submission lengths vary from 800 to 5,000 words. They state that payments are negotiated on an individual basis by the editorial board. To view their submissions page, please visit them HERE.

  3. Family Fun Magazine has been around since 1991 and is geared towards families with children ages 3 to 12. They are interested in submissions related to food, crafts, home organization, and creative ideas to solve household problems. Articles should be between 850 and 3,000 words, and pay is up to $1.25 per word for featured articles. To read their subscription guidelines, please visit them HERE.

  4. Radish Magazine focuses on natural foods and a healthy lifestyle, specifically products and services that are offered in areas of Iowa and Illinois. Their departments include Eating Right, Body, Mind & Soul, Outdoors, and Health & Fitness. Radish pays between $50 and $150 for accepted freelancer articles, dependent on length. 5. Clubhouse is a Christian magazine geared towards children ages 8 to 12. They have a circulation of over 90,000, reaching young readers and their parents all over the world. They accept both fiction and nonfiction articles that focus on a wide range or topics. Fiction should be between 1,800 and 2,000 words, and non-fiction should be between 400 and 1,000 words in length. They generally pay between 15 and 25 cents per word, depending on the amount of editing required. Authors sign a contract and are paid upon acceptance of their story, and are sent complimentary copies once the piece is published. They do not take reprinted stories. They also purchase a non-exclusive license, and simultaneous submissions are not accepted. To learn more about their submission guidelines, please visit them HERE.

  6. The Sun is a very prestigious, prize-winning publication with a strong and dedicated reader base. There is no minimum length, but they often do not publish works above 7,000 words. They accept fiction, personal essays, and poetry. The pay is $300 to $2,000 for fiction and personal essays, and $100 to $250 for poetry. To view their submissions page, please visit them HERE.

  7. Verblio is a blog and content writing service. When I first started, I wrote for them. There are a ton of topics to choose from, and they pay weekly through PayPal. You have to take a test to be accepted as one of their writers. It's a great way to get experience and extra money on the side. Some writers claim they actually make a living working only for Verblio, but you have to work your way up the scale to make high wages. Pay starts at $11.50 for a 300 to 400-word post, and increases beyond that. They offer jobs from 300 to 3000 words. To learn more about working for Verblio as a freelancer, click HERE.
