Living a Life of Devotion: 6 Simple Steps to Integrate Worship into Your Daily Life

Updated: 6 days ago

Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' - Matthew 22:37

Jesus tells us in Matthew 22:36-39 that the first and greatest commandment is to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." He goes on to say, "And the second is like it: ' Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

Furthermore, the Word of God tells us that “the righteous will live by faith” (Romans 1:17). For it is through our faith that we show our love, devotion, and worship to God in Christ Jesus. But how exactly can we integrate this form of worship into our everyday lives?

Here are 6 Simple Steps to Living a Daily Life of Devotion

Start a journal of gratitude and write down at least three things a day that you are grateful for.
Start a journal of gratitude and write down at least three things a day that you are grateful for.

  1. Be Thankful and Have a Heart of Gratitude -  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 tells us to “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  We should strive to make thankfulness a daily habit: Practice saying “thank you” regularly to God and those around you, practice mindfulness giving thanks to God for all the many blessings you already have, keep a journal of gratitude, send heartfelt written letters and notes to express sincere appreciation for acts of kindness. The Holy Bible also tells us in James 1:2-3 that our trials are also our blessings and we should consider them a joy by always giving thanks to God, even during times of great difficulty.  Another good way to worship God through thanks is to write down three things that you are thankful for every day.

Give a small gift of kindness to someone to brighten their day.

  2. Be Kind - Ephesians 4:32 tells us to “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” We can practice being kind to others through simple acts like offering help, lending a listening ear, expressing gratitude, and being polite. Perhaps you could surprise someone with a thoughtful gift or care package?  Why not make a meal for an elderly neighbor or widow?  And, one of the best ways to be kind to someone is to forgive them, just as God in Christ Jesus forgives us every day.

Put your complete trust and faith in God alone in Christ Jesus.

  3. Have Faith - One of my favorite Bible verses is Proverbs 5:3-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight.”  I can’t tell you how many times this one verse has kept me going during challenging times.  By putting our complete faith in God alone and not in ourselves or anyone else, for that matter, we are showing God that we not only trust Him to do His perfect Will through us, but we are also displaying our love, dedication, and daily worship though our unwavering and strong faith in Him.

Donate your time and talents to helping others, and don't forget to glorify God while doing it!

  4. Share Your Blessings With Others and Praise God's Name! - In Hebrews 13:15-16, we read, “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise - the fruit of lips that openly profess His name.  And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”  God blesses us every day, and He has also given us gifts and talents to be shared with others (1 Peter 4:10). Therefore, we should not only praise God’s name in everything we do, giving thanks to Him, but we should also share our blessings with those around us. For instance, if you have been blessed with the gift of empathy, then lend a listening ear to someone in need; if you have been blessed with a talent or a special skill, then volunteer your time and share it with others; if you have been blessed with money, then give generously.  Pray for people, help a stranger, compliment or encourage someone, donate used clothes and items to charity.  There are so many ways to share your blessings with others.  And, if you are not sure how to do this, then simply pray to God, our Father and Creator, and ask Him for His guidance and wisdom through Christ Jesus (James 1:5).

We should always show our respect to others, especially to the elderly.
We should always show our respect to others, especially to the elderly.

  5. Show Respect - 1 Peter 2:17 says to “Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.” Having and showing respect for others is such a profound and beautiful way for us to integrate daily worship and devotion to God in Christ Jesus. This involves treating people with courtesy, kindness, and by acknowledging their opinions, feelings, and worth.  The Holy Bible also tells us to, “Stand in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly, and revere your God. I am the Lord (Leviticus 19:32).”

We should love others as Jesus loved us.
We should love others as Jesus loved us.

  6. Spread Love - Jesus said, “A new command I give you: Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:34-35).”  As disciples of Christ, we can spread love to one another in various ways and through small acts of kindness like holding the door for someone, offering words of encouragement, and giving sincere compliments.  We can also do random acts of kindness, such as paying for someone’s coffee, offering a helping hand, or listening to someone carefully without interrupting.  You can let someone check out ahead of you in the grocery store, buy a stranger a meal, or mow someone’s lawn who is in need. Tell someone you appreciate them just because, or spend time with a sick friend. Sometimes a person just simply needs a hug.  As you can see, there are many ways for us as Christians to show and spread our love to others as Jesus did for us.

Please keep this list handy, use it often, and share it with others!

An Invitation to Accept Jesus Christ into Your Life

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16.

If you are reading this and have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, I ask you to do so now. You are not reading this by coincidence. The Word of God says: "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." - Romans 10:9-10.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Our Heavenly Father and Creator sent Him to die for our sins (John 3:16). All sins, no matter how big, are covered by the sacrificing and atoning blood of Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:13-14, 1 John 2:2, 1 Peter 3:18).

The time is now. There will be no second chance after death: "And just as it is appointed to man to die once, and after that comes judgement, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him." (Hebrews 9:27-28).

Life is your second chance. Every second of the day that you live, God is giving you the chance and opportunity to accept the gift of salvation given to all of us through His Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross.

I repeat: There will be no other chance after death.

Jesus said, "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." - Matthew 7:13-14.

Which road will you take? The choice is yours, but the time is now, because tomorrow is not promised to any of us. (Proverbs 27:1).

There is no "in between" either. You must pick a side, for Jesus Christ has said, "Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters." - Matthew 12:30.

"Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'" - Matthew 28:18-20.

How to Accept Jesus Christ into Your Life

  1. Confession of Sin: Acknowledge you are a sinner and need forgiveness (Romans 3:23)

  2. Belief in Jesus: Believe He is the Son of God, died for your sins, and was resurrected (Romans 10:9)

  3. Repentance: Turn away from sin and self-centered living.

  4. Invitation: Ask Jesus to come into your heart and life as Lord and Savior.

  5. Commitment: Choose to follow Him and live for Him.

  6. Gratitude: Thank God for the gift of salvation and eternal life.

I plead with you, with all my heart, to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Please repent of your sins, and profess with your mouth from your heart the following: that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (John 20:31, 1 John 4:15, Romans 10:9), He suffered and died on the cross for the sins of the world, God raised Him from the dead three days later, and He accended into Heaven and now sits at the Right Hand of our Almighty Father and God (Hebrews 1:3, Romans 8:34). He will come again to judge both the living and the dead. (2 Timothy 4:1). And, finally, please make every effort to get baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16, Matthew 3:15),

You must confess all of the above things from your heart for the gift of salvation that was given by Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, on the cross. If you need some help, please use the example below as a prayer from Pastor Rick Warren:

"Dear God,

I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will.

In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen."

Remember, it's not just about the words, but the sincere attitude and change of heart that matters to God. You can pray in your own words or use the prayer above.

Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World! Please accept Him into your heart and life today and spread the good news!

I testify by the Holy Spirit of God that these things are true. I say all of this to you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, our Lord and Savior, amen.

"Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." - Revelation 22:12-13.
